Back then, they acted as a hood which stood above the grate in order to catch any rising smoke. Over the years, more individuals began focusing their attention on the mantle itself. They began to add little ornaments to achieve an artistic appearance. Now, this décor surrounding the frame itself is the design. There are so many different designs ranging from modern mantle pieces, to even rustic ones which give the home a cozy look. Most people want their fireplace to be the center of attention when an individual walks in, and if decorated properly – it will look breathtaking.
When it comes to decorating the fireplace, it’s pretty much a hit or miss. You really want it to stand out for the people who walk into your home. There are quite a few items you can use to do this but first you need to look around your living room. What kind of living room do you have and what is the color scheme? We suggest matching the color scheme or have it be quite similar in regards to your mantle.
The ornaments can be purchased anywhere such as high class retail stores, or even at garage sales! Some of the décor includes long castles, faux flowers or vines, and mini statues. There are so many different ideas a person can come up with when it comes to decorating their fireplace. You could also add a large mirror over the mantelpiece. Or, what about a beautiful painting to liven up the appearance? Another idea would be to have two mini wall lamps on each side of the mantelpiece. As you can see, you can put pretty much anything above the fireplace just as long as it’s secured safely and looks elegant.
